Banana Bread Latte

This homemade, dairy-free Banana Latte couldn’t be easier to make!

After trying the Banana Cream Latte at Barista – I immediately knew I wanted to create something similar at home.

If you’re like me (not an early morning person), you love having something to look forward to to help get out of bed and put a smile on your face! Well luckily this Banana Latte is a great way to ensure that happens…

I’m also not much of a breakfast person on the weekdays, but this latte lets me feel like my morning coffee is also a little snack. Bonus – It’s dairy free and can be made sugar free too!

Places like Starbucks and Dutch Bros. may make banana lattes, but these rely on artificial syrups and sooooo much sugar. (Both of those are a hard pass for me!)

So if you’re ready to turn your mornings into a celebration rather than a sad affair, run and go make my Banana Latte!

Can I Blend Bananas and Milk?

Absolutely! First, we’re going to make a simple banana milk using just 6 ingredients that you will most likely have on hand. Plus it’s the perfect way to use up that sad overripe banana lying around!

Add a banana (it helps if it’s super ripe) to a small pot, along with the oat milk, walnuts, cinnamon, vanilla and honey. The more ripe your banana is the sweeter it will be and the less sugar or honey you will need, if any at all.

Now bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat and let it cook for 10 minutes. This will break down the banana and allow the nuts to soften. At this point it will already smell like fresh banana bread in your house!

Blend, Strain, Froth!

Remove the banana bread milk from the heat and add to a blender. Blend the mix until it is as smooth as possible. Now strain the banana milk to remove any of the remaining solids.

Finally froth the banana milk (optional too, but always fun) and add to your favorite brewed coffee or espresso. Top with more cinnamon and that’s it!

My favorite coffee beans to have on hand are currently Flag and Wire and Noosa Familia Coffee. Both roasted here in Oregon!

Banana Latte Substitutions

One of my favorite things about this recipe is how easy it is to adapt to your own preferences.

Oatmilk – Feel free to use whatever milk you have on hand. I just happen to think that the oatmilk adds to the baked banana bread flavor more than other milks. Plus I love that it is dairy free!

Walnuts – You can also change this to use your favorite kind of nuts. Almonds, pecans, cashews even…

Cinnamon – I wouldn’t leave out the cinnamon or substitute it as it is one of the dominate flavors that makes this taste like banana bread. You could add a touch of nutmeg though if you like.

Vanilla Extract – I also wouldn’t substitute vanilla for the same reason as the cinnamon… but a touch of almond extract could be a great addition!

Honey – You may find you don’t need an added sweetener for this recipe if your banana is ripe enough. You can easily substitute with sugar, simple syrup or your favorite sugar alternative.

How to Serve your Banana Latte?

This latte is best served hot (don’t worry I’m working on a special blended/iced version) with fresh Banana Bread or my Buttery Berry Scones.

Hi! How long do you think I could store a batch of the milk in the fridge?

Hi Brenna – Sorry for the delay! I would only store the milk for a few days (2-3) in the fridge. After that it may begin to lose flavor and spoil.
